Who Won the Presidential Debate? The Kamala Harris vs. Donald Trump Showdown

Buckle up, folks, because the Kamala Harris and Donald Trump Presidential Debate was a wild ride from start to finish! It was a night of sharp jabs, heated exchanges, and let’s just say, a lot of “I’m talking now” moments. For those who missed the 90-minute battle, don't worry—I’ve got all the tea.

So, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump finally met on the Presidential Debate stage in Philadelphia. They shook hands, but that’s about as friendly as it got. What followed was a verbal boxing match that made us all wonder—who’s winning this debate?

Kamala Harris Comes Out Swinging

Kamala Harris didn’t waste any time poking at Trump's vulnerabilities. She brought up everything from the size of his rally crowds (yes, the size apparently matters!) to his behavior during the Capitol riot. The jabs kept Trump on the back foot most of the night. And if you were hoping for a calm and collected Trump, well, that was not on the menu. Instead, he raised his voice, shook his head, and got defensive about...well, everything.

At one point, Harris took a shot at Trump’s rally crowds, claiming that people leave early out of "exhaustion and boredom." Ouch! Donald Trump obviously didn’t appreciate the roast, and instead of focusing on more important issues like immigration, he spent a chunk of his time defending his rally sizes. Classic Trump, right?

Trump Tries to Keep His Cool...Sort Of

It wasn’t all about rally crowds, though. On more serious topics like the economy and inflation, Trump tried to hold his ground, but Kamala Harris wasn't giving him any breathing room. She cleverly flipped the script, calling his tariff plan a "Trump sales tax." Trump tried to distance himself from Project 2025, a controversial Republican policy agenda, but Harris had already landed her punches.

On the topic of abortion, Donald Trump seemed to stumble. He claimed most Americans wanted Roe v. Wade overturned, which, spoiler alert, polls say otherwise. Meanwhile, Kamala Harris delivered an emotional appeal to women who have suffered under abortion bans, calling Trump’s policies “insulting to the women of America.” This was probably one of Harris' strongest moments of the night.

Who Took the Lead?

If you’re wondering who actually won the Presidential Debate, it’s a bit of a toss-up. A snap poll from CNN said that Kamala Harris came out on top, and the betting markets seemed to agree. Her strategy of putting Donald Trump on the defensive worked like a charm. Time and time again, Trump took the bait, veering off course to defend himself rather than hammering Harris on her weaknesses.

And speaking of weaknesses, Trump had a few moments where he could have landed some major hits—like Harris’ shifting stance on oil shale fracking—but instead, he spent time talking about how much money his dad gave him. Not exactly presidential material, right?

The ABC Moderators Got Involved Too

Let’s not forget the moderators, David Muir and Linsey Davis. They had a bit of a tough time controlling the debate (surprise, surprise). Some Republicans felt the moderators showed favoritism toward Kamala Harris, especially when they fact-checked Donald Trump multiple times. But at the end of the day, it wasn’t the moderators but Trump’s willingness to take Harris’ bait that defined the night.

Opinion Time: Who Won?

Now, here’s where I throw in my two cents. Who really won? It depends on how you see it. If you’re a fan of fireworks and drama, Donald Trump delivered plenty of that with his loud defenses and aggressive comebacks. He even dropped the infamous “I’m talking now” line, a throwback to Harris’ 2020 debate with Mike Pence. Classic Trump style!

On the other hand, Kamala Harris played it cool and kept Trump on the defensive for most of the night. She was sharp and composed and landed some solid punches, especially on issues like abortion and the economy. So, if we’re talking about strategy, Harris seemed to be in control.

That said, this is politics, and public opinion can flip on a dime. But for now, it looks like Harris edged out a win in this round of the Presidential Debate. Will there be a rematch? Let’s wait and see!
