The Royals Review: India’s Own Bridgerton-Style Drama with a Lot More Masala

So, while the world burns and India-Pak Twitter wars are peaking like my stress during CAT prep season, I found comfort in The Royals on Netflix.

Boss, if you're reading this, I swear I watched it post-work hours... at 3 AM... in full dedication to my job and Ishaan Khatter's jawline.

The Royals Review

What Is The Royals About? – Plot, Premise & All the Royal Sass

Imagine if Bridgerton got an Indian makeover, had a baby with a Dharma rom-com, and then that baby was raised by Zoya Akhtar and Karan Johar—that’s The Royals for you.
It’s got the palaces, the petty drama, the eye-roll-worthy dialogues, and plot twists juicier than a Bigg Boss finale.
Royalty is broke, Aviraaj (Ishaan Khatter) wants to model in New York, but is dragged back to his “responsibilities” (read: bankruptcy and scandals). Enter Sophia (Bhumi Pednekar), a boss-lady startup queen who’s here to turn their dusty castle into a royal B&B. Clash? Yes. Chemistry? Oh boy, yes.

Aviraaj Is Hot, Broke & Emotionally Damaged – We Love That for Us

Ishaan Khatter plays the perfect tortured maharaja who doesn’t want the crown but looks so good wearing it (hello, turban thirst trap).
He’s arrogant, emotionally unavailable, and brooding—basically every man I’ve ever had a crush on. But then he grows. Cries a little. Shows emotion. Becomes relatable.
10/10 character development. 0/10 for making me believe men like this exist in real life.

Bhumi Pednekar as Sophia: CEO, Queen, Main Character Energy

Bhumi Pednekar, you icon.
She walks into the palace like she owns it, doesn’t let any royal nonsense shake her power suit, and still manages to be soft, vulnerable, and charming.
She’s every overachieving Delhi girl you’ve ever met—just with better lighting and cooler jackets.

Romance in The Royals: The Enemies-to-Lovers Trope We’re Always Suckers For

The chemistry between Ishaan and Bhumi? Electric.
The slow burn. The banter. The soft eyes across long hallways. The classic “I hate you but let’s flirt anyway” dynamic? SIGN ME UP.
It had all the ingredients of a Wattpad-meets-KJo buffet that makes the giddy teenager in you scream “LOVE EXISTS!”

Rajmata Padmaja: Sakshi Tanwar’s Reign Is Supreme

Let’s just say this: if Sakshi Tanwar told me to eat grass, I’d ask, “Green or dry?”
She’s stunning, sarcastic, emotionally layered, and yes, a lil scary—as all mothers are when you tell them you don’t want to be an engineer.

Zeenat Aman: The Queen Mother We Never Knew We Needed

Zeenat Aman walks in with her diamond-laced sass and vintage vibes, and honestly, I melted faster than butter on a Delhi summer afternoon.
Adopt me, please.

Supporting Cast of The Royals: The Unsung Heroes Deserve a Crown Too

Lisa Mishra, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan—y’all were the glue, the sparkle, and the vibe.
These side characters actually mattered, and their scenes weren’t just filler. That’s rare. Protect them at all costs.

Is The Royals Worth Watching? A Glamorous, Funny, and Emotional Rom-Com Delight

Absolutely. It’s not trying to be deep or meaningful. It’s trying to be fun, stylish, romantic, and a lil unhinged—which is exactly what my soul needs after a 12-hour workday and an existential crisis.

Ending of The Royals: Netflix, Why Do You Hurt Me Like This?

Everything was going so well. The love story was peaking, drama was juicy, we were emotionally INVESTED—
AND THEN THEY ENDED IT ON A CLIFFHANGER.
Like bro, can we not suffer for once?

Final Verdict: Watch The Royals on Netflix – You’ll Laugh, Swoon & Scream

The Royals is like that super toxic ex—you know it’s a little chaotic, but you can’t stop watching.
It’s got glam, heart, too much sexual tension, and a palace full of problems.
Perfect binge material for fans of rom-coms, royalty, enemies-to-lovers, and emotional damage.

Rating: 4.7/5 Maharaja Mustaches

Netflix, if you’re listening—renew this show.
For the sake of Indian rom-com lovers. For the sake of cliffhanger haters. And mostly... for me.
